At Comstock MetalShaping we offer many diffrent disciplines of work, from rust repair, chassis work, trim repair, to complete handmade body parts.

We have the ability to make a complete part with the tools we have at our disposal from a pattern or an old part. We are able to weld and metalfinish steel and aluminum, as well as cast iron repairs because that comes up too often in a restoration.

We not only have the tools to shape new panels (and who doesnt love power tools!) but we also offer weekend intensive classes on the techniques used to understand hand work to get better use of the power tools. We have a Yoder, Pullmax, large Merchant style stretcher shrinkers, 8' 14 GA finger brake, 8' 14" shear, bead rollers, TIG, MIG, arg, and oxy/acet welders, pretty much everything needed to build, customize, or restore your vehicle.

Metal Shaping Classes
We offer three day classes at our shop to share with you what has taken us years to learn. Three days of intensive learning and activity on your carry in project, or you can make something from one of our bucks to take home with you.

What do I need to bring?

Your carry in project, if you have one. Safety gear such as gloves, safety glasses, welding helmet, ear protection, whatever you think you may need. Also, your favorite hand tools may be helpful especially if you are comfortable using them.

Can I team up with other people to get a class together?

Yes, we can help you arrange with others to get a class together.

How much one on one time will I have?

With four people attending, there will be both Dutch and Marty on hand to help you. People learn differently and we recognize this. Some people will want little one on one time; others may need more to feel comfortable. We will work with you at your level of comfort. We won’t leave you hanging. We want you to get the most out of your time here.

Are there nearby motels or camping?

Yes. In Herkimer, a 15 min drive from the shop, there is a couple of motels to choose from, we can help you chose one before you arrive. KOA campgrounds are about a 20-25 min drive from the shop for campers.

How much can I expect to learn in your class?

All the skills listed on the other side of this brochure are a sampling of what we have to offer, as well as much more. It is what you want to learn, and how much of any subject that you may be interested in. We can’t give you all of that even in 3 long days, but depending what interests you, we can work on one subject a lot or a number of them a little.

What kind of project can I bring?

A carry in project, literally something you can carry. Shop space is limited, so something small is preferred. A project that you can use to cover what you wish to learn would be best. No sense bringing something that needs a lot of welding if that’s not what you wish to learn. We have projects here that you can work on that can cover your interests, something you can bring home with you.

Can a beginner take your class?

Absolutely. We welcome people of all levels of knowledge, from a beginner to the seasoned professional.

Are there nearby airports?

Yes, Both Syracuse and Albany airports are approximately an hour away.
